Our 2 night trip to Puerto Iguazu and the Falls surpassed all our expectations. On our arrival day we took a short walk to the 3 Corners view point where you can see Brazil on right and Paraguay on left while standing in Argentina (right).
The next day after deciding at the last minute not to go with an all day tour group, we waited for the public bus to take us to the park. While waiting a taxi offered us a ride at a much reduced rate and then at the park he walked us in to introduce us to the English speaking park staff person who encouraged us to take the Grand Adventure which started in 10 minutes.
The Grand Adventure included a ride into the jungle by jeep (right), boat over the rapids (right), and then into the waterfalls (right) where we got drenched. After the boat ride we took ferry to Isla San Martin where we took a picturesque 1 hour walk up steep stone stairs to more incredible views. For the next 6 hours we walked all the trails of the park, took a train to another 1.5 mile trek over the water to another group of massive falls. Here are a number of pictures from the day. Words just can't describe the beauty, power, and magic of these falls. (upper and center).
Once we left the park, we squeezed into the public bus to return to the hotel. It was hot, crowded and we were standing for the 15 or more miles to the hotel. Then the bus broke down within the first few miles. Thank goodness another impatient American and we decided to leave the bus and successfully hitched a ride to town with a Iguazu couple.
Long day, but wonderfully rewarding. Today we are on to Lima to start our Peru adventures.
