We arrive in Lima late, but our friends Roxana and her son Omar were there waiting for us. Next day we had a personal, wonderful tour of Lima (presidental palace right) including downtown with annual parade of the 3 Kings (more immediate right) an amazing lunch at La Mer where we stuffed ourselves with more than 8 types of ceviche while enjoying a number of refreshing pisco sours (left), and the Miraflores district.
Early the next morning we boarded a very comfortable bus to Paracus for 4 hours. We visited the Paracus National Park where we saw endless miles of sand, beautiful ocean (2nd row, left) and had lunch by the beach.
Next day was full, first with morning boat trip to Islas Ballestas to see the birds, humbolt penguins, guano (bird shit used for fertalizer), sea lions and a view of the mysterious Candlelabra (2nd row, right and right, center). After the boat we rode 2 hours with driver and guide Joel, to Ica to view a couple of Pisco ´factories´ where QA testing or OSHA standards were lacking but the 43% alcohol level would cure any ills (2nd row, center). We then rode on to Huacachina to enjoy the oasis and sand dunes by dune buggies. Absolutely spectacular views, exhilerating thrills rides, stopping at steep inclines to sand board down giganitc dunes...finishing 2 hours later with beautiful sunset (1st row, left, center, next row right). So much fun!!
Next day our driver took us 2 hours to Nasca to view the infamous Nasca Lines by tower and plane (hands, 1st row right)....interesting, but not spectacular. After the flight, we continued a drive through very dry, dessert terraine to see the Chauchilla Cemetary where Nasca culture mummies and tombs were found. Then a gruling 8+ hour bus ride ending at 2 am in Arequipa.
