In Puerto Varas we loaded up our little car after a quick stop to the supermarket for some wine and fresh supply of toilet paper (that we gratefully didn't need) as we set out for the 4+ hour drive on paved roads crossing the Andes to the Argentine border and Villa La Angosturo.
After an amazing drive with beautiful scenery peaking through every curve, we arrive at our lovely hotel in the 'too beautiful for words' town of Villa La Angostura where we immediately celebrated by enjoying a chilled bottle of Chardonnay, sauna, steam and amazing views at the infinity pool (picture upper left)
Since the hotel didn't have accommodations and we wanted to extend our stay 2 more days we found another equally beautiful place also directly on Lago Nahuelhuapi (same lake as in Bariloche, Argentina). (pictures upper center, right)
After 2 days of relaxation, indulgence and just plain over-eating, we reluctently left for San Martin de Los Andes, a 3+ hour, 100 km drive of which 22 km were unpaved and under-construction (picture first row). Once in San Martin we found a hotel downtown and decided to leave the next day for return to Chile's Lake Diistrict.
