New Chapter....New Zealand

While we have a quick 1 day stay in Santiago we tried to take advantage of the time by visiting a number of interesting places (picture above) before we left on 11 pm flight to Auckland, New Zealand. We arrive in Auckland at the very early hour of 4.30 am and take a taxi to our hotel which is conveniently located near busy Queen Street in the heart of the central business district of downtown. For the next 4 days we enjoyed many wonderful restaurants, unique shops, neighborhoods and sights including the Auckland Museum. (picture upper left) We found Auckland to be such a livable city - easy to get around, good energy, safe, clean, ecologically sensitive, etc - that we actually took some time to review interesting real estate opportunities for possible future consideration. We took a day to take a ferry to the beautiful Waiheke Island (about 30 minutes from Auckland) and bus tour of it's beaches and vineyards. (picture upper center) We enjoyed a tasty fresh oyster lunch at the boutique Cable Bay Vineyard where wines and more incredible views were in abundance. (picture upper right)
For our next adventure we decided to leave Auckland in a rented car and set out for new travels Northland on the North Island.

Hi Richard and Susan:

I am enjoying your trip too. I hope you had a great birthday today, Richard. Or was it yesterday by now?

Best wishes, Karen

Auckland sounds really wonderful! How is the cost-of-living there? Are they experiencing as much of a recession as we and much of the world are? If not, it certainly sounds like a great place to retire, and looks lovely, too. Thanks for the pictures and journal. Keep it up!

Hugs to you both,
Pam
