Our 2+ hour trip through more beautiful countryside with picturesque hillsides, pastures, cows (picture bottom) and the Waiau River (picture, bottom) leads us to a 2 day stay in the quaint town of Hamner Springs where we enjoy terrifc moutain/river walks (picture, bottom) and many tranquil locations for reading and relaxing.
We then drive on to the wine region of Waipara to stay in the cottage of a beautiful bed and breakfast (Dunnolly Villa & Cottages) owned by our new friends and parents of a Foster's collegue, Felcity and Peter Parish. The location was idyllic - cottage was cozy and the views of the mountains and endless rows of almost 'ready to pick' pinot noir grapes were just surreal (pictures). To top off our short visit, we enjoyed many good laughs and stories over a delicious dinner prepared by our incredible hostess, Felicity.
We continued on another hour to Christchurch where we were able to explore the city including the Christchurch Cathedral (picture) off the main square where they were preparing an elaborate floral display for the church aisle (picture) as participation in the huge International Flower Show that was starting the next day. While we were planning to attend, there was a big rain storm and we decided to leave town early to avoid the continued bad weather.
After Christchurch was headed for Lake Tekapo only 3 hours south where sunshine and more amazing lake and mountain scenes (picture above) awaited us. We were so overwhelmed with the beauty of this area we decided to stay for 2 nights and enjoyed taking a day to view Mt Cook 'up close and personal' (picture above).
Next stop will be to our most southern desitination....Queenstown.
