Today we gave ourselves a 'day off' to prepare for our stops back in El Calafate tomorrow and Puerto Natales (Chile).
Yesterday we took an all day excursion by van on rough, unpaved road to the 'high country' about 2 hours As the sole trip participants, we had a guide (Laura) and driver (Nicholas) to ourselves. Waterfalls, flowers, trees, and beauty surrounded us on this glacial valley. Wind and slight rain didn't ruin the views which were wonderful.
Then 1 hr boat trip down Laguna del Deshiero to Aregentine border post with friendly army personal included. Took small hike to view lake, then returned and proceeded to a beautiful FitzRoy Expedition Camp for warm fire, wine, and gourmet lunch (picture above). Laura then led us on small hike to view glacial wet lands before getting back on the van.
On the return we stopped to view fossils (picture above) and once at the hotel, took a nap to prepare for another fabulous, gourmet meal by chief Benjamin which did not disappoint. Another tough day in beautiful Patagonia.
