Snap, Crackle, BOOM!

Thursday afternoon we decided to take advantage of a last minute boat trip to the Viaedma Glacier while the weather was still good - warm (high 60's) and as always very windy (feels like 50 mph). Spectalular up-close site views of the glacier during our 2 hour tour (pictures above). We were told the glacier averages 60 meters tall and can go as far as 200 meters below the water. The colors of the ice - white, gray, blue, aqua marine - were intense.
Yesterday (Friday), after checking out of our hotel in El Chaletan, we were back on the bus for a 3 hr return trip to El Calafate. After securing a funky (clean, but not great) hosteria for the night we returned to the bus terminal for a trip to view an even larger glacier in Perito Moreno about 1 hour away from town. Can't even begin to describe the amazing size, view, and sound of this immense glacier....simply astounding! We just sat and listened to the snap, crackle, and then boom as pieces of the glacier broke off and fell into the water. It was mesmarizing. (pictures above)

I can't believe you are getting off on ice and snow. Ouash. That's "yuk" in Montreal-speak.
